Razeghi Clinches, Men’s Tennis Advances at ACCs

Stanford defeated Florida State, 4-3, to reach the semifinals

CARY, N.C. – Advancing to the ACC Championships semifinals with its fourth consecutive victory, fourth-seeded No. 17 Stanford men’s tennis defeated 13th-seeded No. 60 Florida State, 4-3, at Cary Tennis Park. Stanford improves to 17-7 this season and reaches the ACC semifinals for the second consecutive season.

The Cardinal struck first in doubles with wins on courts one and two. Florida State first earned a victory on court three, but Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera immediately followed with a 6-3 victory on court two. The win was their seventh as a tandem this year. Advancing to a tiebreaker to clinch the first point, Alex Chang and Alex Razeghi earned a 7-6 (5) win on court one, their 17th as a pair this season and 11th in dual action.

Stanford quickly pushed its advantage to 2-0 after Chang won by default on court three after a racquet throw from his opponent, with Chang leading 4-3 at the time of the stoppage. Florida State pulled a point back on court three to make it 2-1.

Samir Banerjee returned to action with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over a ranked opponent on court two, making it 3-1, but Florida State managed to tie the match at 3-3 with victories on courts four and six.

Moments after the clinch on court six, Razeghi gave the Cardinal the match with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 triumph on court one. The victory marked Razeghi’s fifth match clinched this season, and he improves to 20-3 on the season with a 17-1 mark in dual action.

Stanford earned its third consecutive victory over the Seminoles since joining the ACC, moving to 3-1 all-time in the series history.

In a rematch from Stanford’s dramatic 4-3 victory to open the Arrillaga Tennis Center, the Cardinal will face top-seeded No. 7 Wake Forest on Saturday, April 18 at 7 a.m. PT. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
