ACC Run Ends in Semifinals

Stanford men’s tennis fell to Wake Forest, 4-0

CARY, N.C. – Fourth-seeded No. 17 Stanford men’s tennis’ quest to repeat as ACC Champions ended in the semifinals, as top-seeded No. 7 Wake Forest topped the Cardinal, 4-0, at Cary Tennis Park. The Cardinal will enter the NCAA Tournament with a 17-8 overall record.

Just 15 days after Stanford’s win over Wake Forest at Arrillaga Tennis Center, the Demon Deacons struck first with wins on courts two and three in doubles. Alex Chang and Alex Razeghi were just two points away from defeating the nation’s second-ranked pair, leading 5-4 and 30-0 in the 10th game, but Wake Forest clinched the doubles point on court two before the battle on court one could be completed.

The Cardinal won a pair of first sets, coming in each of the top two positions from Razeghi on court one, 7-6 (5), and Samir Banerjee on court two, 7-5. Needing four singles match wins to advance to the championship match, Wake Forest scored straight-sets wins on courts four, five and six to earn the victory.

Stanford drops to 2-6 all-time against Wake Forest, splitting the season series. The Cardinal awaits its NCAA Tournament fate, with the selection show set for Monday, April 27 at 2 p.m. PT on NCAA.com.
