Cardinal Runs Well at ACC Championships

Flynn and Bergeron tabbed All-ACC in Stanford's third conference running

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Julia Flynn and Paul Bergeron’s All-ACC performances highlighted a strong morning for the Stanford cross country teams as the Cardinal competed at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Cross Country Championships on Friday. Both harriers led the way for the Cardinal as their respective No. 1 scorers in Stanford’s third running at the conference championships.

On the men’s side, Bergeron led the way for Stanford, claiming an All-ACC performance with a 20th place finish overall while leading the Cardinal to a fifth-place finish overall. His season-best time of 23:11.4 slotted him in the top-20 by three seconds while narrowly missing out on his personal best time by that margin. Behind Bergeron, Josh Bell and Sean Fries finished in order for the Cardinal as both harriers claimed personal-best times. Bell’s 23:15.7 slotted him 24th overall while Fries’ 23:17.4 placed him 27th as three Cardinal claimed top-30 outings.

Byron Grevious and Evan Noonan placed as the final scorers for Stanford as both runners claimed personal-best times while placing inside the top 45. Leo Young and James Dargan placed as Stanford’s reserve scores on Friday with top-50 finishes.

On the women’s side, Julia Flynn continued her dominance on the course, placing 15th overall for an All-ACC honor while snatching another personal-best time. The fifth year blazed through the course in 19:34.9, smashing her previous best time of 19:50.9 set at Wisconsin’s Nuttycombe Invitational this season. Following Flynn, Amaya Bharadwaj claimed 63rd overall to place as Stanford’s No. 2 scorer while Chiara Dailey earned a personal-best time of 20:37.0 to finish as Stanford’s No. 3.

Hanne Thomsen and Hillary Studdert rounded out the scoring for the Cardinal on the day with solid outings while Jaelyn Williams and Amelia Everett claimed reserve scores for Stanford. The Cardinal women claimed 14th overall among one of the nation’s toughest fields.

Stanford is back in action in two weeks, heading up the road to Sacramento, Calif., for the NCAA DI West Regionals on Friday, November 13.
