SAN DIEGO – Taking to the water for its only competition of the fall calendar, Stanford lightweight rowing posted strong results in the varsity eight and won the championship in the varsity four.
Taking on openweight crews from UC San Diego, San Diego State and San Diego, the Cardinal varsity four rowed to an open water victory by nearly 34 seconds. Zadie Diniz, Channing Brook, Helen Pruitt-Kennett, Lily Carr and Anna Heflin crewed the Cardinal to the win.
Competing as the only lightweight program in attendance, the two Stanford eights placed seventh and ninth out of 15 teams. Stanford’s lights each defeated the entrants from UC San Diego, San Diego and San Diego State, while the seventh-place Cardinal vessel also downed one of the four boats from UCLA. Three of the six teams that placed above the Stanford lightweight program came from the Stanford openweight team.
Stanford lightweight rowing returns to the water with its home opener on Saturday, March 13 at Redwood Shores against Saint Mary’s.
