High School: A 2004 graduate of Leland High School, where he spent his final two prep campaigns • Also played one season at Bellarmine College Prep as a sophomore • A two-sport standout in baseball and football at both schools • A prep All-American selection by Sportslink/Perfect Game in 2004 • Played in the 2004 High School All-American game in Albuquerque, New Mexico • Named to the 2003 and 2004 All-Central Coast Section teams and to the 2003 All-State underclassman squad by Cal-Hi Sports • Named his club's MVP during his junior and senior years while leading the Chargers to two Blossom Valley Athletic League championships and two CCS semifinal appearances • Hit .605 in his junior campaign with seven doubles, seven homers, 34 RBI, 36 runs scored and 29 stolen bases • Homered from both sides of the plate during a CCS playoff game in his junior season • As a senior, hit .405 with 14 doubles, three homers and 27 walks while starting off conference play with an amazing 15 consecutive hits • Set six Leland High School single-season records, including batting average (.605), hits (45), slugging percentage (.969), stolen bases (29), doubles (14) and RBI in a game (7) • Helped Bellarmine College Prep to the 2002 West Catholic Athletic League title • Also a two-way (LB/FB) football player in each of his three high school campaigns, earning All-Blossom Valley League honors in each of his last two seasons and being named the league's Linebacker of the Year as a junior • Led his football team to the 2003 BVAL regular season title and a CCS playoff appearance as a senior, while being named his squad's Team MVP and the school's Senior of the Year for 2003-04 • Was one of 200 players in the nation selected to play in the 2003 U.S. Army Football Combine • Coached in baseball by Scot Gillis at Leland High School and Gary Cunningham at Bellarmine College Prep.
