Brock Ungricht enters his seventh year on the Stanford coaching staff in 2016-17. It marks his third year as a full-time assistant after four years as a volunteer, a position he previously held at San Diego State in 2010.

In his time with the Cardinal, Ungricht has coached two first round draft picks (Stephen Piscotty and Alex Blandino), two All-Americans, two freshmen All-Americans, eight All-Pac-12 honorees and a Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Stanford has reached three Super Regionals since his arrival on The Farm, and 19 of his players have been drafted.

Among Ungricht's prodigies, Piscotty hit a team-best .329 during his junior season, and was selected 36th overall in the 2012 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2014, Blandino hit . 310 and hit 12 home runs as a junior en route to becoming the 29th overall selection in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds, while Austin Slater, who hit .341 under Ungricht, was drafted in the eighth round that yea, and has quickly vaulted to the Triple A level with the San Francisco Giants. Another standout, Eric Smith, went from a backup infielder to starting catcher who hit .321 and was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers thanks to Ungricht's mentoring.

The 2011, 2012 and 2014 Stanford teams each reached the Super Regionals, as Ungricht worked with the team's hitters and catchers. Most recently under Ungricht, the 2016 team finished No. 1 in the nation with a school record .983 fielding percentage, including the fewest errors in program history (35).

Ungricht's athletes have been equally successful in the classroom, including a 100 percent graduation rate for all four-year seniors, and three Academic All-Americans.

Also under Ungricht, Stanford has had five straight recruiting classes rank among the Top 25 in the nation from Perfect. Game.

In 2009, Ungricht began his coaching career as the head coach at San Diego's Kearny High, leading the Kornets to their first league title in 28 years. The team went 19-12 overall and 13-3 in league play and Ungricht steered Central League Player of the Year Chris Pernicano to a fine campaign.

Ungricht spent three seasons as a student-athlete at San Diego State, batting .373 as a freshman All-American with 48 RBI over 63 games for head coach Tony Gwynn. After a .256 sophomore season, hit .314 with 37 RBI as a junior. The summer prior to his junior season, Ungricht played for Orleans in the Cape Cod League.

The corner infielder and catcher finished his Aztec career with a batting average of .318 with 44 doubles and 117 RBI, leaving among the all-time leader in hits, RBI and total bases.

Ungricht was picked in the 30th round of the 2006 draft by the New York Yankees, spending a season playing for the Gulf Coast League Yankees before playing for Chico of the Golden Baseball League in 2007.

A three-time All-CIF selection as a prep, Ungricht was inducted into the Mission Bay High School (Calif.) Hall of Fame in 2008.

Ungricht earned a degree in criminal justice from San Diego State in 2008.

Ungricht’s wife, Taylor, has been a part of the Stanford sports performance staff since June 2010. She is in her fourth year working with men’s, women’s and sand volleyball and men’s and women’s diving. The couple recently had their first child, Ava.
