RENO, Nev. - Senior Ryan Mango secured his second tournament title of his redshirt season, Sunday, at the 18th Annual Reno Tournament of Champions at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nev. Stanford senior Timmy Boone (149 pounds) and true freshman Jim Wilson (165 pounds) each placed sixth.
As a team, Stanford finished 11th in the tournament with 39.0 points. Oregon State finished atop the team standings with 145.0 points, while Boise State (119.0 points) and Michigan State (107.5) rounded out the top-3.
Mango is now 10-0 overall this season at 133 pounds and becomes the first Cardinal wrestler to win the RTOC since Nick Amuchastegui (174 pounds) and Zack Giesen (197 pounds) won the tournament at their respective weight classes in 2010.
Boone finished 6-3 in the tournament and improved to 14-8 overall this season. He was edged 3-2 in the fifth-place bout by West Virginia's Brutus Scheffel.
Wilson posted a 4-1 record on Sunday, having to medical forfeit his final two bouts to take sixth place. He is 9-1 overall this season, having claimed the Roadrunner Open title in November.
Junior heavyweight Dan Scherer and true freshman Zach Nevills (174 pounds) also had their tournaments cut short by medical forfeits.
Redshirt freshman Evan Silver (125 pounds) and junior Bret Baumbach (165 pounds) each finished 4-2 on the day for the Cardinal.
Up next, Stanford closes out 2012 at the prestigious Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill. The tournament, hosted by Northwestern, takes place Dec. 29-30.
