STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford outfielder Cassandra Roulund talks about the team's busy week in the latest edition of her blog. The sophomore will be blogging all season long to give Cardinal fans a behind-the-scenes look at the team.
Hello, hello everybody!
I hope everyone had a fabulous, relaxing week. If you are one of those lucky people who DID have a relaxing week, I envy you. It has been a constant go, go, go here on The Farm. But to be honest, I wouldn't have it any other way. (Okay, maybe just ONE relaxing week thrown in would be nice).
This past week we travelled to Oregon again (seriously, it's like we live in the Eugene airport). We travelled on April 1st (April Fools' Day) and Tegan Schmidt (along with Hass) decided to play a little prank on Coach. The plan was to hide Coach's luggage once we arrived in Eugene and let him think that his clothes didn't make it on the plane. Unfortunately, Hass gave in too soon and told Coach that we took his bag, so it didn't end up being as funny as we all had hoped (and Coach wasn't as freaked out as we originally thought he would be). BUT the real funny part of the story is that Tegan ended up not getting her bat bag. KARMA! The entire team was laughing hysterically. Tegan thought we were playing an April Fool's prank on her, but the bag was actually missing! It was absolutely hilarious. (Thankfully, her bag ended up showing up a little while later - I still have no idea where it was or how it got lost in the Eugene airport). So our April Fools' joke didn't turn out exactly the way we had planned, but don't worry, we still pulled a fast one on Coach by slipping a hairbrush into his luggage for him to find later (he hates hair)! It was all in good fun though. Thankfully Coach can take a joke (or maybe a few jokes).
Oregon proved to be a fun and interesting experience (doesn't it always?). Our hotel was literally in right field. I don't know if I can say that Corvallis is prettier than Eugene, but having the hotel so close to the field was definitely more convenient (props to Corvallis to having such convenient lodging).
Wining a series was definitely the highlight of the trip, but another highlight was the restaurant we had dinner at - Block 15. Yes, I love food, but that is not the reason why the restaurant made it on the highlight list. The reason is because we were able to DRAW on the tables with chalk! It wasn't like there was a sheet of white paper taped on top - no, it was the actual table! (Check out the pictures)! It was awesome. Our team is amused so easily.
Shout out to Mrs. White who showed up with goodies at the Eugene airport - it was awesome. Same to Mrs. Ashby, who baked some delicious cookies for us! WE LOVE GOODIES!
Like I mentioned above, our week was SUPER busy. We got back from Oregon and immediately started preparing for our series against ASU. Although it was a pretty rough weekend, we battled and won the final game on Sunday. It was awesome to have Jennie Finch announce our games on Saturday and it was even more awesome to have our `Little League Day' on Sunday. A big THANK YOU to everyone who showed up. We absolutely love talking to all the younger athletes and hopefully encouraging them to pursue what they love.
Inspirational Quote of the Week: "It's hard to beat a person who never gives up." - Babe Ruth
Standout Teammate of the Week: Sarah Hassman (Sassy, LaSarah, Hass) Our SuperSenior is an incredible person on and off the field. She recently was interviewed because she is just overall stellar and a stud on the field (she also broke the record at Stanford for stolen bases). GO SASSY!
Knock, knock. Who's there?
