STANFORD, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford received goals from 13 different players, fueling a 23-2 victory over Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center.
Jenna Flynn scored a game-high four goals and Talie Wilmans added three, as five other Cardinal players produced multi-goal performances.
Returning home for the first time in three weeks, Stanford (16-0, 3-0 MPSF) maintained its best start since opening 24-0 and finishing 28-1 back in 2011 on the way to winning the NCAA title.
The Cardinal outshot the Broncos (8-15, 0-0 GCC) 44-20, converted five penalty shots and set the tone with a 9-2 lead after the first period.
Stanford's defense continued its strong play, allowing fewer than 10 goals for the 14th time this season while holding its opponent scoreless for at least an eight-minute stretch for the ninth time.
Leading 9-2, the Cardinal tacked on six more in the second period to build a 15-2 halftime lead. Six different players scored in the quarter, beginning with Alissa Pascual's goal at the 6:59 mark and concluding with Sam Sternfels finding the cage with 1:45 before intermission.
Bella Bachler and Kate Morgan scored their first career goals 50 seconds apart late in the fourth period.
Maya Avital started before giving way to Jackie King, who finished with seven saves over the final three quarters.
Stanford next visits USC on Saturday, April 8, at 1 p.m., representing a rematch of the nation's top two teams, who have also combined to win the last 12 NCAA championships. Back on Feb. 26, Sophie Wallace's goal with 10 seconds left powered Stanford to an 11-10 victory over USC as the Cardinal repeated as Barbara Kalbus Invitational champions and captured its sixth tournament crown overall.
