Cardinal Beats Undefeated Yale

     

Lucy Pearson’s career-high 15th save in the final minute clinched the second-highest ranked win in program history for the Stanford women’s lacrosse team as the No. 7/8 Cardinal took down previously undefeated No. 4 Yale, 11-10, at Cagan Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 

With the win, the Cardinal secured its second-highest ranked win in program history, it’s highest ranked win at Cagan Stadium and first win against a top-five opponent since 2011 when the No. 13 Cardinal defeated No. 5 Syracuse, 11-10, at Cagan. Saturday’s win also marked Stanford’s 20th-consecutive win at Cagan Stadium, which now stands as the longest active streak in Division I women’s lacrosse.

Long jumper Alyssa Jones earned her fifth first-team All-America honor and sophomore Sophia Kennedy earned her first to highlight Stanford performances Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Four Cardinal women competed on Saturday. Sophomores Sophia Kennedy and Amy Bunnage placed ninth (9:04.07) and 14th (9:11.87), respectively in the 3,000, and junior Alyssa Jones was 15th in the high jump (5-8 3/4, 1.75).

Stanford’s Roisin Willis placed third in the women’s 800 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, highlighting the final day of competition for the Cardinal at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Stanford finished 13th as a team with 16. The total matched last year’s, though the Cardinal placed two spots higher this year. Stanford was the highest-placing women’s team from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Menโ€™s Basketball Selected for NIT

     

Stanford men’s basketball will participate in the postseason for the first time since 2018, as the program was selected to the National Invitation Tournament. Competing in the event for the 10th time, the Cardinal will host CSUN at Maples Pavilion in the first round.

Tickets for the first round of the NIT tournament will go on sale on Sunday, March 16 at 7 p.m. via tickets.gostanford.com. The game will tip off on Tuesday, March 18 at 8 p.m. PT and will air on ESPN2.

Weekend Sweep

       

Game 1: No. 18 Stanford (13-3, 3-1 ACC) took the opening game of a three-game ACC series with Duke (12-7, 2-2 ACC) 5-1 on Friday night from Sunken Diamond behind a strong start from junior Matt Scott and a solo homer from senior Charlie Saum that sparked a four-run sixth inning. 

 Game 2: Japanese high school baseball home run king Rintaro Sasaki hit his long-awaited first collegiate home runs on Saturday, including a walk-off three-run blast to force a run-rule 11-1 victory over Duke (12-8, 2-3 ACC) to secure a series win for the No. 18 Cardinal (14-3, 4-1 ACC) from Sunken Diamond. 

Game 3: Trailing 4-0 headed to the bottom of the third inning, No. 18 Stanford (15-3, 5-1 ACC) slugged its way to a 10-5 come-from-behind victory over Duke (12-9, 2-4 ACC) on Sunday to secure an ACC series sweep of the Blue Devils from Sunken Diamond.

Stanford to Host WBIT Opener

       

Stanford will participate in the postseason as part of the 32-team Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament field, the WBIT selection committee announced Sunday.

The Cardinal will host Portland in a first-round game at Maples Pavilion on Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale by visiting tickets.gostanford.com.

First-round play in the tournament is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, with second-round games taking place on March 23.

No. 9 Stanford men’s tennis continued its ACC homestand on Thursday night with a 4-1 win over No. 55 Notre Dame. The win is Stanford’s third in a row in ACC play, improving to 11-4 (3-2) on the season.

No. 9 Stanford men’s tennis passed a nearly four-hour test from visiting Louisville, defeating the Cardinals at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion, 4-2. Stanford improves to 12-4 this season and 4-2 in the ACC.

A perfect weekend on the sand

          

No. 5 Stanford enjoyed a flawless Friday afternoon on The Farm, defeating both Texas A&M Corpus-Christi and Utah in 5-0 fashion for the Cardinal's eighth and ninth sweeps this season.

Fresh off a flawless Friday full of action, No. 5 Stanford earned two more 5-0 sweeps Saturday, topping both Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Saint Mary’s at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. 

Through 18 matches, Stanford sits with a 13-5 record, including 11 5-0 victories.

DeMarini Invitational Game 1 (vs. Cal Baptist):

The No. 18 Cardinal moved to 18-3 tonight, topping Cal Baptist 5-1 behind a career night from freshman pitcher Zoe Prystajko and three hits from Taryn Kern. Prystajko carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, finishing with just one run allowed on two hits.

DeMarini Invitational Game 2 (vs. Nevada):

Alyssa Houston had a career day in the circle, striking out eight in 5.0 non-consecutive hitless innings, as the No. 18 Cardinal topped Nevada 4-1 to move to 19-3 on the season.

DeMarini Invitational Game 3 (vs. Nevada):

No. 18 Stanford topped Nevada this afternoon 2-1, moving to 20-3 on the season and a perfect 15-0 at Stanford Stadium. River Mahler hit what would prove to be the game-winning home run, and Cardinal pitchers limited the Wolf Pack to just one run on four hits.

Mahler’s home run was her fourth of the year, after entering the season with no home runs in her first two seasons on The Farm. The run driven in was Mahler’s 26th of the season, leading the team.

Stanford pitchers finished the weekend with three runs allowed in three games, striking out 23 and allowing just seven hits.

No. 2 Stanford men's gymnastics closed out the regular season with a victory, knocking off tenth-ranked California 324.250-313.200 on Saturday afternoon.

The meet also served as the program's Senior Day, during which the Cardinal honored its five seniors: Taylor BurkhartMark BerlagaIan Lasic-EllisLuke McFarland, and Khoi Young

Burkhart celebrated his final meet at Burnham Pavilion with a strong showing, winning each of the first two events of the night on floor exercise (14.200) and pommel horse (13.750). The Arvada, Colo. native also stuck his vault to finish second with a 14.200, along with a 13.550 still rings routine to finish fifth.

Stanford Records Stellar Senior Night Performance

    

The No. 13 Stanford Cardinal delivered a stellar performance on senior night, celebrating Anapaula Gutierrez and Brenna Neault with a 197.175-196.475 victory over No. 18 Denver inside Maples Pavilion.

Stanford’s score of 197.175 marked its fourth home meet of the 2025 season scoring 197.000 or better—the first time since at least 1999 that the team has achieved this feat in every home competition.

Gutierrez claimed her first event title of the year on vault with a 9.900, while junior Anna Roberts secured her fourth all-around (39.450) and floor (9.900) titles of the season.
