CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Stanford’s remarkable streak has reached a half century and the Cardinal’s latest dynasty delivered the title.
Men’s gymnastics won its sixth NCAA championship in seven years, scoring 329.825 to runner-up Oklahoma's 328.495 at Illinois' State Farm Center on Saturday. In the final rotation on rings, Nicolas Kuebler scored 14.166 and Asher Hong sealed it with a 14.300, the second and third best scores on the apparatus all night.
Stanford has now won at least one NCAA team championship for 50 straight years, a remarkable streak that dates back to the 1976-77 campaign when the men’s water polo program defeated UCLA 13-12 on Nov. 28, 1976.
The next longest active NCAA title streak? North Carolina … with 7.
The Cardinal led wire-to-wire, including a season-best 56.432 on parallel bars, and hit 24-of-24 routines to reach the department milestone.
In their first NCAA meets, Cooper Kim and Jun Iwai won individual national titles - Kim on floor (14.466) and Iwai on vault (14.433).
Stanford is the nation’s all-time leader in NCAA team championships, having won 138 overall (71 men, 67 women) while significantly outdistancing itself from the likes of UCLA (126) and USC (115) among the trailing Division I collegiate programs.
This is the 11th NCAA men's gymnastics championship in school history and Stanford has won all but one title since 2019 (there was no NCAA championship in 2020). The Cardinal’s other trophies came in 1992, 1993, 1995, 2009, 2011, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Men’s gymnastics is the fifth Stanford program to win 11 NCAA championships, joining women's tennis (20), men's tennis (17), women's swimming & diving (11) and men's water polo (11). The Cardinal's 11 NCAA championships are the third-most men's gymnastics team titles in the nation (Penn State 12, Oklahoma 12).
Head coach Thom Glielmi has led the Cardinal to eight NCAA titles, which ranks second overall among active Stanford head coaches and trails only John Tanner of women's water polo (10).
Of Stanford’s 138 total NCAA championships, 35 have been won by fall sports, 34 by winter sports and 69 by spring sports.
The Cardinal has captured 63 NCAA crowns since 2000 and 42 since 2010.
Stanford has produced 175 national team championships overall (78 men, 94 women, 3 coed).
