STANFORD
Navy now leads the all-time series versus Stanford, 2-1-1, with tonight's win.
The first points scored in the new Stanford Stadium were by Navy with a field goal kicked by Joey Bullen with 2:00 left in the first quarter, while the first touchdown recorded in the new Stanford Stadium was by Navy's Brian Hampton with 14:50 left in the second quarter.
The first points scored by Stanford in the new Stanford Stadium were on a 22-yard field goal kicked by Aaron Zagory with no time remaining on the clock in the second quarter.
The first Stanford touchdown recorded in the new Stanford Stadium was scored by Anthony Kimble on a two-yard rush with 11:58 left on the clock in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinal collected its first sack of the season when Pannel Egboh and Chris Horn took down Brian Hampton in third quarter.
True freshmen Richard Sherman and Brian Bulcke made their first career starts tonight for the Cardinal. Stanford has played six true freshmen in 2006 after playing none in 2005.
Trent Edwards had a single-game career-best of 23 completions tonight against the Midshipmen.
Trent Edwards became the seventh Stanford player to surpass 5000 passing yards, improving to seventh on Stanford's all-time list with 5085 career passing yards. Edwards also moved up one spot on the school's all-time completions list (454), while remaining seventh in both total offense (5339) and pass attempts (806).
The 368 rushing yards allowed by Stanford tied for the 10th most allowed in school history.
Stanford's 270 passing yards were a season-high and the third straight game in which the Cardinal has passed for more than 200 yards.
Kelton Lynn made the first catches of his career with team-highs of six receptions and 72 receiving yards, while Michael Miller (3-31) also picked up his first collegiate receptions. Austin Yancy (4-65), Toby Gerhart (4-31) and Jim Dray (4-24) added career-highs in both receptions and yards receiving with Dray equaling his career-best in the latter category.
Brian Bulcke led the Cardinal defense with 14 tackles in his first career start, while Michael Okwo posted a career-best 10 stops in his first game of the season after missing the first two contests with a broken hand.
Clinton Snyder had a career-best 11 tackles and became the first Stanford player of the season to force a pair of fumbles since Jon Alston knocked two balls loose at Arizona on October 15, 2005.
Ekom and Udeme Udofia both added a career-best seven tackles, while Sione Fua had a career-best five.
Stanford's 0-3 start this year is the Cardinal's the first since the 1987 season when Stanford dropped four in a row.
Stanford had won four of its five previous home openers but has now lost each of the last two seasons in its home debut.
NAVY
Navy improved to 3-0 for only the third time since 1979 with its 37-9 victory at Stanford on Saturday night ... the Mids own a 29-11 record over its last-four seasons ... the nine points allowed are the fewest since Navy's 41-9 win at Rice last year ... the 28-point margin of victory is Navy's largest since a 49-21 win against Tulane last season.
The Midshipmen have won each of their last-three road openers ... Navy defeated Tulsa, 29-0, in 2004 and recorded a 28-21 victory at Duke last season.
Navy had not allowed a touchdown for 95:33, dating back to the first quarter of the UMass game last week, before Stanford's two-yard touchdown run with 11:58 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Midshipmen rushed for 368 yards on 69 carries, marking their 20th-consecutive victory when rushing for more than 300 yards.
Navy registered its 13th-consecutive victory when scoring first ... the Midshipmen marched 57 yards in 15 plays for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 2:00 remaining in the first quarter ... the 15-play drive was Navy's second-longest drive in number of plays this season ... the Mids put together a 16-play, 93-yard scoring drive during its season-opener against East Carolina.
The three points allowed by Navy's defense in the first half were the fewest allowed in the opening half since yielding three points in the Rice game last year (Oct. 22, 2005).
Navy's defense held Stanford to 74 yards on 25 carries, marking the second time the Mids have yielded less than 100 yards rushing ... the Midshipmen allowed only 76 yards on 25 attempts during its season-opening win against East Carolina.
Navy completed more passes (five) and threw for more yards (48) than it had all season (three completions and 27 yards) coming into tonight's game.
The Midshipmen have scored on their opening possession of the second half 11 times over the last 14 games ... of those 11 second half-opening scoring drives, nine have resulted in touchdowns.
Junior fullback Adam Ballard (Lewisville, Texas) ran for 121 yards on 26 carries, marking his fourth-career 100-yard game ... both his carries and rushing yards are season-high marks.
Junior slotback Reggie Campbell (Sanford, Fla.) gained 110 yards on 13 rushing attempts to post his second-career 100-yard rushing game ... he tallied 116 yards during Navy's Poinsettia Bowl victory over Colorado State last year.
Juniors Adam Ballard (Lewisville, Texas) and Reggie Campbell (Sanford, Fla.) each ran for over 100 yards in Saturday's game ... it's the first time Navy has had two 100-yard rushers since Ballard and Campbell performed the feat at last year's Poinsettia Bowl ... in that game, Ballard gained 129 yards, while Campbell racked up 116 yards.
Senior quarterback Brian Hampton (Scott Air Force Base, Ill.) ran for two touchdowns for the first time in his career tonight ... he has run for at least one touchdown in each of Navy's games this season.
Junior slotback Reggie Campbell's (Sanford, Fla.) touchdown runs of 14 and 17 yards represent the second time in his career that he ran for multiple touchdowns in the same game ... he posted three touchdown runs during his five-touchdown performance against Colorado State in last year's Poinsettia Bowl.
Navy completed nine passes in 12 attempts, its highest completion total since the Rutgers game last season ... Brian Hampton (Scott Air Force Base, Ill.) was 8-of-11 passing for a career-best 75 yards, while sophomore Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada (Kapolei, Hawai'i) completed his only pass attempt for a four-yard gain.
Sophomore wide receiver Tyree Barnes (Hampton, Va.) caught a career-high three passes for 35 yards ... he had made two receptions for 65 yards at Duke last season.
Senior John Chan (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) recorded a sack in his third-consecutive game during the second quarter tonight ... he has posted a sack in five of his last-six games, dating back to the Temple game last year.
Senior David Mahoney (Fort Myers, Fla.) led the team with a season-best total of tackles this evening.
Junior Reggie Campbell's (Sanford, Fla.) 57-yard kickoff return to open the third quarter was the second-longest of his career ... he brought a kickoff back 72 yards against UMass last week.
Senior Jeremy McGown's (Houston, Texas) picked off his first-career pass in the second quarter of tonight's game.
Senior Jason Tomlinson (Arlington, Texas) reached 1,500 career all-purpose yards with his 10-yard punt return in the first quarter.
Junior Joey Bullen's (St. Simons Island, Ga.) 39-yard field goal in the third quarter was his longest make since his 46-yard field goal against Air Force (Oct. 7, 2005) last year.
