STANFORD, Calif. – On a day when Stanford's 21 seniors and grad students were recognized at their final home meet, senior Laurel Wong achieved a lifetime best to win the women's pole vault at Payton Jordan Invitational on Saturday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Wong cleared 13-8 ¼ (4.17 meters) to move up one spot on Stanford's all-time performers' list to No. 4, passing Ellie McCardwell, who jumped 13-7 ¾ (4.16m) in 2011.

Wong, the 2018 a human biology major from Salinas, opened at 11-11 ¾ (3.50m) and was perfect at each of her five heights before her three misses at 14-0 (4.27m). Wong's previous best of 13-7 ¼ (4.15m) was achieved at the 2022 Stanford Invitational and matched at the Mt. SAC Relays later that season.

Stanford earned a pole vault sweep, with sophomore Garrett Brown winning the men's competition at 17-3 (5.26m). Brown later ran the 110 hurdles – the first hurdles race of his life – and clocked 15.11.

In the women's 800, Melissa Tanaka took advantage of the pace set by teammate Roisin Willis and set a personal best 2:04.77 while placing fourth. Willis and Juliette Whittaker, took pacesetter duties for two sections of the 800, leading the field through 600.

In the women's 1,500, Joselyn Brea broke her second Venezuelan record of the meet, clocking 4:07.27 while finishing second to fellow pro Skylyn Webb, who ran 4:06.73. On Friday, Brea set a South American record while winning the 5,000.

In the men's 400, sophomore Udodi Onwuzurike, the Stanford record-holder in the 100 and 200, made his debut at the one-lapper. Onwuzurike finished second in 48.57.

On Friday, Stanford's women's distance medley team will compete at the Penn Relays. The team of Tanaka, Maya Valmon, Roisin Willis, and Whittaker won the NCAA indoor championship last month. They will return to the Bay Area in time for the 128th Big Meet in Berkeley on Saturday.
