No. 2 Stanford claimed a big win in ACC play on Friday night, taking down Virginia 1-0 on the road. It’s Stanford’s third ACC victory and its third on the road.

Card add another clean sheet to the season

No. 6 Stanford allowed just four total shots and freshman Lizzie Boamah scored in the 18th minute as the Cardinal (10-1-0, 2-1-0 ACC) blanked Miami (3-4-2, 0-2-1 ACC) 1-0 in Stanford’s ACC home opener from Cagan Stadium on Thursday.

Capping a flurry of shots from the Cardinal off a corner kick, Boamah punched in the game-winner following saved shots from Mia Bhuta and Andrea Kitahata. Boamah delivered her putback just inside the near post to run her career goals tally to two.

Freshman Eleanor Klinger seemingly made it 2-0 in the 28th minute as Elise Evans served a long ball into the box on a free kick that bounced and was chested down by Klinger as she spun toward the near post. The native of Cleveland, Ohio hammered her shot into the goal, but the offside flag went up to negate the tally.

Sophomore Mia Bhuta headed-home her third goal of the season in the 19th minute, but Pitt’s Keera Melenhorst equalized in the 39th as No. 6 Stanford (10-1-1, 2-1-1 ACC) was forced to settle for one point following a 1-1 draw with Pittsburgh (7-3-2, 1-2-1 ACC) on Sunday afternoon from Cagan Stadium.

Bhuta got on the end of a beautiful corner kick from Jasmine Aikey, heading her shot to the near post to beat Pitt’s goalkeeper Ellie Breech to make it 1-0 Cardinal.
