Lizzy Houston enters her second season as the associate head coach of the Cardinal’s women’s lightweight rowing team, after a strong first year on The Farm.
Stanford lights swept the WIRA Championships in Houston's first season, going on to finish second at the IRA Championships. The Card finished in the top four of all three events, winning the Varsity 4+ grand final to take home a title. Overall, Stanford finished just a point behind Princeton (67-66) for the overall crown.
Houston came from Boston College, where she served as assistant women’s coach and head novice coach for the Eagles. Houston was the primary coach for the third and fourth varsity eights, leading the 3V8 to seventh at the 2022 and 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference championship regattas.
Among her responsibilities at B.C. were on-campus recruiting, design and implementation of walk-on tryouts, and novice team selection. Houston assisted the head coach in areas such as logistics, training plans, recruiting strategy and equipment management.
In the summer of 2023, Houston coached at US Rowing’s boys and girls Olympic Development Program camps in Chattanooga, Tennessee, developing and identifying junior athletes as part of the High Performance and National Team pipelines.
Houston, a USRowing Level 2 Coach, graduated from Hobart and William Smith colleges in 2019 with a double major of arts in media and society, and English.
As a competitor with the Vesper Boat Club, she won the under-23 8+ at the Royal Canadian Henley and the senior/elite 8+ at the USRowing Club Nationals. She also rowed with the William Smith varsity 8+at the NCAA Division III championships.
Houston rowed in the New York Athletic Club’s under-23 program for a number of years and for the Riverside Boat Club since 2019.
