Payton Jordan: Day One

Results Opens in a new window

STANFORD, Calif. – Two continental records fell at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Friday night at Cobb Track and Angell Field and 14 Stanford athletes earned personal bests on the first of two days of competition.

Cole Sprout, in his outdoor season debut, placed second in the 10,000 meters in 28:30.91 to highlight Stanford performances in the distance portion of the meet.

Stanford athletes comprised the bulk of the athletes in the field events and came away with many quality performances. The best among them was in the women's high jump where Alyssa Jones tied her Stanford freshman record with a leap of 6-0 (1.83m). The mark ties Jones with Tracyce Lawyer for second all-time at Stanford outdoors.

In the long jumps, Allan Hunter set a PB of 24-5 ½ (7.45m) win the men's, and Tess Stapleton jumped her collegiate best 19-8 (5.99m) to win the women's.

Two South American records were broken: Joselyn Brea set a Venezuelan and South American record of 15:05.56 to win the women's 5,000.

In the men's 5,000, Federico Bruno ran 13:11.57 to set an Argentine national record and South America record) in a runaway victory. Stanford's Charles Hicks ninth in 13:33.29.
