No. 8 Stanford made its return to the win column on Tuesday evening, dispatching Bay Area foe Saint Mary's with a 3-1 victory.

The Cardinal (5-1-0) gave up the opening goal but responded with three unanswered goals to defeat the Gaels, who fall to 0-3-2 after the loss.

“Another great result and another great performance,” said Jeremy Gunn, Knowles Family Director of Men’s Soccer. “They scored against the run of play, which can be frustrating, but we stayed composed and continued to create fantastic chances. Obviously, the red card changed the game, but we were always on top, so no complaints on the night.”

No. 8 Stanford scored twice in the final ten minutes to erase a late deficit and earn a resilient 3-2 victory over Syracuse on Saturday evening.

The Cardinal (6-1-0) picks up its first conference win of the season in the first-ever meeting between the two sides, while Syracuse (2-3-2) still searches for its first home win of the season after surrendering a late lead.

“Tonight was just an exhilarating game of soccer,” said Jeremy Gunn, the Knowles Family Director of Men’s Soccer. “I think a lot of teams would fold after the circumstances we faced tonight, but it was remarkable to see how strong our players looked and how determined they were to get back into the game.”

No. 3 Stanford completed a two-match road trip to start ACC play on Sunday, rolling past Pitt (4-4-2) 6-0 to improve to 7-1-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in the conference.

The Cardinal wasted no time getting on the board on Sunday as sophomore Eleanor Klinger scored just 39 seconds into the match. The play developed quickly as Jasmine Aikey sent a pass back to Sammy Smith on the right side of the attack where she sent a cross to the foot of Klinger for the tap-in at the near post.

All three Stanford goalkeepers recorded minutes in the combined shutout, with freshman Caroline Birkel working the first 67 minutes before being replaced by Kaiya Jota in the 68th minute. Jota was then replaced by Alyssa Savig with a little over seven minutes left in the match. None of the trio were tested in the victory as Stanford outshot Pitt 31-4 and held the Panthers without a shot on frame.

Stanford will take next week off from competition, returning home to host Boston College on Thursday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
