Doyle Voted Director of Football Operations of the Year (December 2012)

Matt Doyle is in his 25th season with the Stanford football program in 2024.

He was promoted to senior associate athletics director and director of football operations and player development prior to the 2015 season. Previously, he served as associate athletics director and director of football operations (2013-2015). From 2007-2013, Doyle was the assistant athletic director and director of football operations. Prior to 2007, Doyle worked in a dual role within recruiting and football operations. 

In his current role, Doyle oversees the day-to-day operations of the football program while also serving as the Director of Player Development.
 
Doyle established the “Card4Life” program which works to connect members of the community, as well as former and current football student-athletes, with the goal of expanding career development opportunities in the summer and beyond.  In this role, he works closely with the Stanford’s BEAM Career Education, academic support services and business leaders in the Stanford Community and Silicon Valley.  Additionally he serves as pro liaison working with NFL scouts, postseason college all-star games and player agents.
 
His broad range of responsibilities includes the overall management of the football budget, team travel, bowl game coordination, and the Stanford Football Camps and Clinics. He also plays a key role in fundraising and outreach for the program as he coordinates football alumni communications and fundraising. Doyle’s other duties include game day management, community outreach, the coordination and planning of team events related to the football program, including NFL pro timing day, the annual team awards banquet and special projects, including the coordination of Stanford ‘s trip “Down Under” to play Rice University in Sydney, Australia in 2017.

Doyle serves as an adjunct professor in the University of San Francisco Sport Management program, teaching a graduate course titled Sports Management and Leadership: how crisis and conflict impact college athletics. 

Doyle is very involved in athletic administration on a national level as he currently serves on the Rose Bowl Game Advisory Committee and the College Football Playoff Advisory Committee. After serving as of the AFCA Football Operations National Committee, he assumed the role of president in 2015 and still serves as a trustee with the organization. In December, 2012, Doyle was the recipient of  the Football Operations Director of the Year, presented by FootballScoop.com, an award that is nominated for and voted on by his peers.

Doyle played an integral role in the 2013 remodel and extension of the 30,000 square foot football wing in the Arrillaga Family Sports Center, including the coordination of fundraising efforts of former Stanford football players. He was instrumental in the design of the Stanford Stadium Fieldhouse, which opened at Stanford Stadium in the Fall of 2015. The facility features state of the art locker rooms for the home and visitors, new training rooms for both teams, an x-ray center, a new official’s locker room and a multi-purpose space used for recruiting, donor functions and other football-related events. 

Prior to coming to The Farm, Doyle taught world history, U.S. government and journalism at his alma mater, Saint Francis High School, in nearby Mountain View. Doyle earned his bachelor’s degree in history from UC Davis in 1998, where he played outfield on the baseball team. Doyle has a master’s degree in sport management from the University of San Francisco.

Doyle and his wife, Hillary, reside in Redwood City. The couple has a daughter, Catherine, and a son, Matthew.
