Junior Shae Harvey recorded her first career multi-goal match, collecting a brace and adding an assist, to lead No. 3 Stanford to a 5-0 shutout victory over visiting Virginia Tech on Thursday night from Cagan Stadium.

The shutout was the fourth consecutive clean sheet for Stanford, which improved to 10-1-1 on the year and 4-0-1 in ACC play. Virginia Tech dropped to 4-7-3 overall and 0-5-1 in the ACC.

Harvey scored goals in the 11th and 61st minutes before assisting on Stanford’s final goal in the 69th minute.

In a battle of top-five teams, No. 3 Stanford (11-1-1, 5-0-1 ACC) came out victorious with a 2-1 win over No. 1 Virginia (10-1-2, 4-1-1 ACC) on Sunday from a sold-out Cagan Stadium.

The ranked-victory was the third of the season for Stanford after previously defeating No. 16 Santa Clara and No. 6 USC. Sunday’s win was also the first over a top-five opponent since defeating No. 2 North Carolina on October 13, 2024, and the first over a top-ranked foe since knocking off No. 1 UCLA on October 14, 2022.

Senior Jasmine Aikey got the scoring started with a spectacular bicycle-kick goal in the 27th minute. Mia Bhuta delivered the ball in on a corner kick before a header from Lizzie Boamah was blocked and sent looping back toward the top of the box. Turning her back to goal, Aikey raised her right foot and cycled her shot toward the back post for her team-leading 11th goal of the year.

Sophomore Charlotte Kohler turned in what proved to be the game-winner in the 37th minute as she took a shot that was stopped by a defender on the goal line for a team save. Staying on the attack, Boamah ran down the rebound and sent in a left-footed cross where Kohler rose above her defender and headed her shot past Virginia goalkeeper Victoria Safradin for her fifth goal of the seson.

Trevor Islam Fletcher Bank celebration

Eighth win in a row at cagan

A dominant defensive showing and two second-half goals from Palmer Bank and Trevor Islam pushed the top-ranked Cardinal to a 2-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday evening.

Stanford (11-1-1, 5-1-0 ACC) has now won each of its eight matches at Cagan Stadium this season, marking the best home start to a season in program history. The Cardinal also extended its win streak to a season-long five games, jumping to a three-point lead atop the ACC standings.

A nearly flawless performance from the back line, Stanford held Pittsburgh to just one attack and kept the Panthers away from the corner flag through 90 minutes. It was the first time the Cardinal had held an opponent to just one shot since Feb. 15, 2021, in a 5-0 win over San Francisco. The home side of the scoresheet showed 14 shots for Stanford, including seven on frame, and nine corner kicks.

Stanford men's water polo stifles long beach state 19-11

Stanford’s offense came out firing this afternoon, and the Cardinal put the clamps on No. 10 Long Beach state in the second half to pick up a 19-11 win. The fourth-ranked Card was led by Botond Balogh’s seven goals, and moved to 9-4 on the season.

“The last time we played Long Beach State it was a great game, it went to overtime so I think this was a good litmus test for where we are right now,” said Dunlevie Family Director of Men’s Water Polo Brian Flacks. “Hopefully we can build some momentum going into our big conference game next week against California, which is a huge game for us.”

Overtime Celebration

Natalie Hoppe’s third collegiate goal bookended the scoring for Stanford field hockey as the Cardinal shocked Boston College in overtime on Sunday at Varsity Turf, 2-1.

“Being in this position before, the difference today was that we drew blood first,” said Susan Ewing York Director of Women’s Field Hockey head coach Roz Ellis. “We maintained that lead the whole game but we do also know that we need to do some digging into closing games out.”

Elvira Khasyanova to lead artistic swimming

Elvira Khasyanova has been named head coach of the Stanford artistic swimming program, as announced on Friday by Jaquish & Kenninger Director and Chair of Athletics John Donahoe.

Khasyanova has been a steadying influence and respected leader for the Cardinal since arriving on The Farm in September 2018, serving as assistant coach for the previous seven seasons.

A 2021 International Swimming Hall of Fame inductee, Khasyanova boasts an extremely decorated professional career competing as a member of the Russian Senior National Team from 1999-2012 and a three-time Olympic gold medalist in the team competition (2004, 2008, 2012).

“I am deeply honored to step into the role of Head Coach for the Stanford Artistic Swimming program,” said Khasyanova. “I want to thank our student-athletes, Megan Abarca, John Donahoe, Angie Jabir, Richard Zhu and the entire Stanford community for their unwavering support and trust. I am especially excited about the upcoming season, in which we will host both the MPSF Championships and USA Artistic Swimming Collegiate Championships.”

Dean Greyserman

Highest finish of the season

A favorable back-nine resulted in a career-outing for Dean Greyserman and Jay Leng as the Cardinal duo earned their first collegiate top-10 finishes following the finale of the Hamptons Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. As a team, Stanford earned its highest finish of the season placing fourth while beating out Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opposition in No. 15 Florida State at 5-over for the tournament.

The Cardinal repeated as Women's ACC champs this weekend, winning the 18-team regatta hosted by MIT. Stanford also took second at the Captain Hurst Bowl and Savin Hill Invite, rounding out the weekend with a fourth-place finish at the Nevins Trophy.

The Card won the ACC with 136 points – Vanessa Lahrkamp skippered the A boat, with Piper Blackband (1-8, 11-14) and Alexandra Jones (9-10) each joining for stretches. The boat took first in the division with 69 points, including a pai of first-place finishes.

The B boat featured Ellie Harned and Samara Walshe splitting skipper duties, and Kit Harned at crew. The boat finished first four times, coming in second in the division with 67 points.

“It’s a big win, against a field very similar to what we will see at the national championship, at a difficult venue very different than what we practice at home," said head coach Chris Klevan. "It is not easy for our team to start late in the season, relative to other schools, but then travel the way we do to try to catch up to the rest of the country. Yet, we do it with a grace and a toughness that, I think says a lot about our team culture. The victory in Boston last weekend showcased our teamwork, focus and mental toughness.”
