Sammy Smith Achieves Winter Olympic Dreams

Smith earns spot on U.S. Olympic Cross Country Ski Team

Less than two months after starting at defender in the 2025 College Cup final for the Stanford women’s soccer team, sophomore Sammy Smith has achieved her lifelong goal of making an Olympic team.

Smith earned a spot as a member of the U.S. Olympic Cross Country Ski Team ahead of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games, which get underway Feb. 6.

“I could not be more excited to represent the U.S. at the Winter Olympics,” said Smith, one of at least four Stanford undergraduates who have qualified for the 2026 Winter Olympics, joining Zoe Atkin (Great Britain - freestyle skiing), Eileen Gu (China - freestyle skiing) and Brandon Kim (USA - short track speed skating). “I want to thank my family for their unwavering support, my coaches Rick Kapala, Peter Holmes, and Braden Becker, my team SVSEF Gold Team, and of course the U.S. Ski Team for giving me this incredible opportunity and helping make a lifelong dream a reality.”

Jumpers Shine for Track and Field in Albuquerque

The program recorded multiple top-10 marks at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational

A strong effort from the Stanford jumpers highlighted a weekend full of action at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational on Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The weekend featured a pair of event titles from Xavier Drumgoole and Alyssa Jones, while Drumgoole and Alaysia Oakes each set new marks in the Stanford Indoor Top-10.

In Drumgoole's first triple jump of the new season, the Round Rock, Texas native posted a 15.95m (52' 4") mark to claim the event title, the second-best indoor triple jump performance in Stanford history.

Men's Tennis Secures Spot in ITA National Team Indoors

The group surrendered only one point over the course of a weekend sweep

In a rematch between former Pac-12 programs, No. 3 Stanford men’s tennis opened ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-1 victory over Utah at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion.

On Saturday, the Cardinal blanked Rice 4-0, booking a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships (Feb. 13-17).

Stanford has also now won 28 straight matches on The Farm since its last home loss back on April 7, 2023.

Women's Swimming and Diving Honors Seniors

Seniors cap off final match at Avery Aquatic Center with win over San Jose State

No. 3 Stanford women's swimming & diving enjoyed a perfect Senior Day meet on Saturday afternoon, winning each of the 15 events to defeat San Jose State, 226-67.

Following the meet, the Cardinal celebrated its ten graduating seniors - Lucy Bell, Jamie Brennan, Sophie Duncan, Charlotte Hook, Torri Huske, Gigi Johnson, Natalie Mannion, Kirsti McEnroe, Emilie Moore, and Kayla Wilson.

Torri Huske added a victory in the 100 breast (1:00.85) in her final home meet, and Emilie Moore capped off her final competition in Avery Aquatic Center by claiming the 1-meter dive crown with a 306.75.

Men's Volleyball Notches First win of the season

The program collected a ranked victory and split the weekend set against No. 17 UCSB

Stanford (1-4) hit .264 as a team in its first win of 2026, while UC Santa Barbara (4-1) was held to a .217 clip in its first loss of the season. The Cardinal finished with 12.5 blocks, 54 digs and two aces.

Opposite Moses Wagner led Stanford with a season-high 21 kills on .304 hitting, 10 digs and four blocks for his first double-double of the year. Outside hitter Theo Snoey added 14 kills, eight digs, two assists and two blocks.

After outlasting the Gauchos in five sets, on Thursday, No. 14 Stanford fell in straight sets to No. 17 UC Santa Barbara, 25-19, 25-20, 25-16, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.

Women's Gymnastics Victorious in Home Opener

The group topples No. 16 Clemson at Maples Pavilion

In its first time competing inside Maples Pavilion during the 2026 season, No. 9 Stanford recorded a dominant victory Sunday afternoon over conference rival No. 16 Clemson, 197.075-196.300.

Senior Anna Roberts and freshman Ana Bărbosu tied for the all-around title with matching scores of 39.450. 

The Cardinal concluded the meet with its best rotation of the afternoon, scoring 49.400 on floor, marking the second consecutive week it had posted a score of 49.400 or better on the event.

The squad defeated two ranked opponents to claim home open

No. 2 Stanford posted the top team score in the nation this season, scoring a 326.450 to win the Stanford Open on Saturday evening. 

Making his return to collegiate competition, Asher Hong impressed with a pair of event victories on the night, including an 80.300 all-around effort. A two-time still rings NCAA champion, Hong claimed the event title on Saturday with a 14.450 routine.

Women's Water polo Cruises against ranked opponent

Team remains undefeated with dominant ranked win over No.6 Long Beach State

No. 1 Stanford stormed past No. 6 Long Beach State for a 23-11 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Brigitte Donner Daws Memorial Invitational.

After a tight first quarter, Stanford (2-0, 0-0 MPSF) took control with a seven-goal outburst in the second period and never looked back.

Jenna Flynn matched a career high with six goals on eight attempts while Juliette Dhalluin added three goals and five assists for the Cardinal, which received at least one goal from 12 different players.

Women's Tennis splits weekend in Oklahoma

Women's tennis splits weekend in frigid temperatures

No. 9 Stanford beat Yale 4-2 on Friday morning in the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

Stanford freshmen duo of Alyssa Ahn and Tianmei Wang clinched the doubles point. 

Ahn, who qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship in the fall, was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 2. Yale picked up a couple of points on courts five and six to tie the match at 2-2, but senior Caroline Driscoll won in straight sets at No. 3, 6-4, 6-4, before Ekstrand clinched it with a three-set win at the top spot, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

On Sunday, the Cardinal suffered its first loss of the season falling to host and No. 6 Oklahoma 4-1, splitting the weekend in Norman.

Men's Golf Opens Spring Season

The program topples No. 31 Texas A&M to begin spring season

In its first action since the turn of the new year, No. 35 Stanford cruised to victory in The Vintage Club Shootout, dispatching No. 31 Texas A&M on Sunday, 7-1.

Stanford, which won six of the eight matches during Sunday’s contest, held firm control for a majority of the match-play style bout, heading into the turn with six matches in hand - four of which by multi-hole leads. 

The Cardinal never relinquished its advantage in the remainder of the afternoon, earning six match wins, including three 3&2 decisions

Defending NCAA Champions begin season with strong showing in trio competition

Stanford opened its 2026 campaign on Saturday, Jan. 24, with a strong showing at the OSU Invitational.

Stanford, which totaled 61 points, produced its best performance in the trio competition, as Yara Elian, Calista Liu and Audrey Kwon captured an event title with 201.1008 points.

The Cardinal further showcased its depth as Megumi Field, Dalia Ovadia and Karen Xue placed third with 183.7750 points.

Wrestling Splits Weekend in Virginia

The program earns first road ACC win in a weekend split

On Friday, No. 22 Stanford fell 22-14 to No. 12 Virginia Tech in its first ACC road dual of the season, Friday, in Cassell Coliseum.

However, on Saturday, Stanford won eight of 10 bouts and defeated Virginia, 31-9, at the Aquatics & Fitness Center on the Cavaliers’ campus.

The Cardinal (4-6, 2-2 ACC) improved to 2-1 all-time against Virginia (8-6, 0-3 ACC), picking up its first road conference win of the season. Four of Stanford’s eight wins came by bonus points.
