Rintaro Sasaki Celebration

Baseball Sweeps No. 8 Florida State

Rintaro Sasaki hits walkoff Grand Slam to complete sweep

Following in the footsteps of Stanford Softball who upset a top-10 ranked Florida State team two weeks ago, Stanford Baseball pulled off a massive upset, sweeping the No. 8 Seminoles and even collecting their own walk-off grand slam.

In Game 1, Stanford scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to upend FSU 4-3 from Sunken Diamond. In Game 2, it was another tight matchup as junior Eric Jeon laced a walk-off single off the wall in left field in the bottom of the 11th inning as Stanford defeated Florida State 8-7 on Saturday to clinch the series win.

The fireworks continued on Sunday as sophomore Rintaro Sasaki delivered a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning, echoing Addyson Shepppard’s walk-off slam against the Seminoles. Sasaki took the first two pitches for balls before lacing the 2-0 offering out to left-center field for the grand slam. The round-tripper was Sasaki’s team-leading 14th of the year.

Stanford advanced to ACC Match Play round for first time in program history

In the ACC Men’s Golf Championship in Panama City, Florida, Stanford Men’s golf secured the No. 1 seed and first ever berth in the Match Play part of the ACC Championship.

Cui, however, was unable to secure Stanford’s first individual ACC Champion honor, falling in the playoff as he shared the runner-up spot overall.

In the match play segment of the tournament,  Stanford men’s golf earned its first ACC Match Play win on Sunday, dispatching No. 27 Duke, 3-1, before battling No. 24 Florida State into the night. After being halted due to the darkness, Stanford topped Florida State 3-2 in the semifinals.

Program falls to No. 1 North Carolina in ACC Championship

Against No. 7 seeded Boston College in the quarterfinals, Lucy Pearson’s season-high 11 saves combined with an early second-quarter lead was the difference as the Cardinal dispatched the Eagles, 14-7. In the semifinals, Peep Williams’ highlight-reel tally in the final minute and a Lucy Pearson save in the final seconds pushed Stanford over No. 10 Clemson in the ACC Semifinals.
