STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford extended its NCAA team title streak to 48 seasons and captured four national championships overall, highlighting the 2023-24 athletic campaign.
One of the most recognizable streaks in college athletics, the Cardinal has captured at least one NCAA team championship in each of the last 48 seasons, dating back to the 1976-77 campaign.
Men’s gymnastics and women’s golf – the two most dominant programs on The Farm – embraced their status as title favorites and won their respective national championships in wire-to-wire fashion. Men’s gymnastics delivered its fifth consecutive NCAA crown while achieving its highest score since 2019. Women’s golf showcased its superior depth behind five All-Americans, adding to a postseason haul that already featured Pac-12 and NCAA Regional titles.
Stanford also brought home two ICSA national titles in sailing for the second consecutive season, winning the Women’s Fleet and Women’s Team divisions.
The Cardinal’s women’s sports success, in particular, continued to take center stage, thanks to NCAA runner-up finishes from women’s soccer and women’s rowing, a second straight Women’s College World Series appearance for softball and breakthrough seasons from beach volleyball and women’s gymnastics.
Stanford (1312.75 points) produced a narrow runner-up finish to Texas (1377.00) in the Learfield Directors’ Cup, presented annually to the nation's most successful intercollegiate athletic department. The Cardinal has won the trophy in 26 of the possible 30 seasons, including a 25-year streak from 1995-2019.
In the Capital One Cup race, Stanford finished second with 155 points behind Texas (156) in the women’s standings and took sixth on the men’s side. The only school to deliver a season sweep of the men's and women's titles in the history of the Capital One Cup, Stanford is a three-time winner in the men's category and seven-time champion of the women's program, including four of the last seven years.
Six years after overtaking UCLA as the nation's all-time leader in NCAA team championships, Stanford enters the 2024-25 campaign with 136 overall, gaining separation from its closest competitors in UCLA (123) and USC (113). The Cardinal has won 167 national team championships overall.
Highlighting Stanford's individual performances in 2023-24 was Cameron Brink, named the Naismith Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year and recipient of the Lisa Leslie Award, given to the nation’s top center. A three-time All-American, Brink was selected second overall in the WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks after averaging 17.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game.
Stanford added 10 individual national championships to its overall count in 2023-24, increasing its all-time totals to 562 (NCAA) and 645 (overall). Asher Hong punctuated the men’s gymnastics run with three NCAA titles (parallel bars, still rings and vault). Track and field’s Juliette Whittaker cemented her reputation as the nation’s leader in the 800 meters, earning the podium’s top spot in both indoors and outdoors. Khoi Young (men’s gymnastics) and Anna Roberts (women’s gymnastics) debuted as first-time NCAA champions while group titles were achieved by artistic swimming, lightweight rowing and women’s rowing.
Among the other notable accomplishments: 17 conference championships (regular season and tournament combined), 25 individual conference champions and 113 All-Americans.
Stanford’s academic prowess also remained unparalleled, producing 37 CSC Academic All-Americans across 17 different sports. The Cardinal also registered an overall graduation rate of 97 percent in the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR), with 17 varsity teams earning a 100 percent graduation rate.
